Maidens' Garlands

                               Paper Chapet located at entrance of St Bertrams Chapel, Holy Trinity, Ilam, Staffordshire.

                                                                                 

                              Sperical19th Garland in memory of Hannah Phillips Earlier Garland was renewed in 1860.

                               Located at St Calixtus, Astley Abbots, near Bridgnorth,Shropshire.

                              Hannah drowned crossing the river on the eve of her wedding,10th May 1709.

                   

                                                                    

        Pre conservation Minsterley crown found at Holy Trinity  fashioned of cream and brownish flecked crimped paper                                                            

                                                     

                                                   Post conservation reveals a Madonna blueish dyed paper 

                                                                        

 

       

 

    Holy Trinity, Minsterley,Shropshire has seven Maidens Crowns hanging from heart-shaped escutcheons sited on the west gallery.

                                                                                    

                        19th Century drawing by Llewelyn Jewitt of garland formally found at St Giles, Matlock, Derbyshire.

                         This was removed from St Giles by Thomas Bateman during the restoration of the chu                                                   Only four of the crowns noted by Jewitt remain suspended from the beams above the aisle of Holy Trinity, Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire.
