Maidens' Garlands

Paper Chapet located at entrance of St Bertrams Chapel, Holy Trinity, Ilam, Staffordshire.


Spherical19th Garland in memory of Hannah Phillips Earlier Garland was renewed in 1860.

Located at St Calixtus,Astley Abbots,near Bridgnorth,Shropshire. Hannah drowned crossing the river on the eve of her wedding,10th May 1709.



 Pre conservation, fashioned of cream and brownish flecked crimped paper                                                            


 Post conservation reveals a Madonna blueish dyed paper.



Holy Trinity,Minsterley,Shropshire has seven Maidens Garlands hanging from heart-shaped escutcheons sited on the west gallery.


19th Century drawing by Llewelyn Jewitt of garland formally found at St Giles,Matlock,Debyshire.


This garland was removed from St Giles by Thomas Bateman during the restoration of the church in 1859.


Only four of the garlands noted by Jewitt remain suspended from the beams above the aisle of Holy Trinity Ashford-in-the-Water,Derbyshire.
